Berlin can be pleased about a clear upward trend in the labor market: The number of employed persons increased by 1.6 percent compared to the previous year to just under 2.2 million in 2023. That was over 34,000 more people than the average for 2022, making Berlin the second-highest percentage increase of all federal states. The nationwide average was +0.7 percent. 

The service sectors in particular contributed to growth in 2023, with an increase of 1.6 percent. The manufacturing sector proved robust overall with an increase of 1.7 percent, while the processing sector posted a 1.3 percent rise.
